Fritz R. Buhler, M.D.
Fritz Buhler joined Bear Stearns from International Biomedicine Management Partners (IBMP) of Basel, Switzerland, a $70 million biotech venture fund, which he co-founded and where he served as Vice Chairman of the Board.
From 1992 to 1995 he was Head of Global Clinical Research and Development and Chief Medical Officer at Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel. Dr. Buhler was Director of the Department of Research at the University Hospital, Basel, where he continues his affiliation as a Professor of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Pathophysiology, Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
He is Director of the European Center of Pharmaceutical Medicine, a board member of the Georgetown Center of Drug Development Science in Washington, D.C., a co-founder of the BioValley in Europe, and a former executive board member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. He has worked at Columbia University and Harvard University, where he was a visiting professor in cardiology. Dr. Buhler received his M.D. degree from the University of Basel, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France.
